A 37 Year Wait

True Magnum Elite Member, Ian, was fortunate enough to snag a hard to come by opening at one True Magnum's top producing outfitters in Montana for elk. Opening week has provided 100% shot opportunity and almost the same percentage of success from year to year. What Ian doesn't mention is that he has waited for 37 long years to punch his first elk tag. We are thrilled that we were able to help him accomplish a life-long dream of harvesting a mature bull. This is a little write-up that Ian was able to send us after he returned home.
"This October I was fortunate enough to spend the opening week of Montana’s rifle elk season with Anchor P Outfitters in White Sulphur Springs. Lon Hanson and his wife Julie run their operation in one of the most picturesque locations imaginable. Upon arrival, we got situated in our lakeside cabins and sent some rounds down range in preparation for the next morning's festivities. The accommodations were wonderful, with private cabins situated on a lake full of bite-happy rainbow trout to occupy every minute not spent running after elk.
Speaking of elk, Lon has a few. Every day of the hunt we would put eyes on herds from 100 up to 350+ head, and we glassed no less than 10-12 bulls per day. Three of the nine hunters in camp had 6x6 or better bulls on the ground by breakfast of opening day, and the week finished with seven bulls 6x6 and up. I was able to notch my tag on a mature 6x6 on day 4 hunting with Lon and one of his guides Heath, an elk hunting maniac ex-Marine. The crew there takes care of absolutely everything after the kill and allows you to just sit back and bask in the glory. The entire experience was absolutely top shelf, and I already have plans for a return visit to search for better!"
