Gobi Ibex Combo Hunt
Just returned from a hunt in Mongolia. Started out in the Gobi staying in a yurt or ghur as the Mongolians call it. While glassing for a nice Gobi Ibex saw plenty of Gobi argali sheep and finally put the stalk on the ibex. Next was a gazelle. Amazing to see them racing in large numbers over the horizon. Afterward travelled to the Maral elk area where they were roaring in full rut. All along the away the local staff was, fully attentive as was the US based outfitter. Both went well beyond expectations to make for a series of great and sporting hunts. Mongolia is one of the most sparsely populated countries and it is very safe. Traveling from one hunting area to another was on the dirt roads across the steppe that connect all parts of the country. It was like being in the US in 1900. Much of the country is nomadic and runs livestock on the open range. The local religion is Tibetan Buddhism. The icing on the cake was when the hunt was over, the local guide took me to the museums and markets in Ulaanbaatar. I plan to go back for Altai Ibex. Highly recommend.
