Central Asia Marco Polo Hunt - 1184

The airport to be used in the country is the Dushanbe International airport, with a VIP reception at the airport with luggage and firearms. Once arriving, there will be a day and a half drive to the hunting area. While that is long, the route to the sheep hunting area drives through some of the Bukharan Markhor hunting areas, and sometimes seeing Markhor is a possibility.

The hunt is available in two date brackets in 2020, one being the last two weeks in November, while the other is the first two weeks in December. We typically choose these dates because that is the time period that the sheep start to migrate, and the area we hunt lends itself well to some migration patterns. There are no hidden trophy fees after the harvest. There is the possibility of a 60"+ ram in this area, so the trophy quality is definitely there.

We recommend a 30 caliber cartridge or bigger for the sheep, as they are a large animal, and given the lay of the country, longer shots are a possibility. We expect all of our clients to know, and be comfortable with where their gun shoots at 500 yards. While this is not ideal, it is sometimes a necessity in those mountains.

The Mid-Asian ibex can be hunted near the Marco Polo area, but it sometimes makes it a more interesting experience to hunt the ibex in a different part of the country. With this change in scenery, Wild Boar and Afghan Urials can be added onto the hunt, time depending. This hunt is typically scheduled for eight days of hunting, with two days each way of travel time each way, making this a 12-day hunt total. That being said, there is flexibility on each hunt; we can build this hunt specifically for each hunter. There is the option of four hunters in camp at once, so coming with a friend is a real possibility. The hunt typically consists of driving around in trucks, and then when animals are spotted, it will be hiking from the trucks. Most stalks have a total altitude gain of fewer than 1,500 feet, so it's not too strenuous, hiking-wise. The altitudes hunted will be 13,000 feet and up. While Diamox is an option considering the altitude the hunts will be at, but we typically don't recommend using it because of some of the side effects. Usually drinking plenty of water is all us, or our clients need. However, if you are thinking of bringing some along, consult with your physician beforehand.
