Product Description
Shiras Moose Hunt in British Columbia
The Shiras moose, otherwise known as the Wyoming moose is the smallest of the moose subspecies and is indigenous to the Bull River area. Just after the rut in late October, they begin to migrate to their winter range area and this provides an optimal hunting opportunity. This hunt is typically in the outfitters northernmost camp at about 6500' elevation.
This is not a physical hunt, not a lot of hiking or climbing, but it is mentally challenging as there is a lot of "sit and wait". This animal is a creature of habit and they predictably frequent feeding holes. Once the holes are located it's a matter of waiting it out.
The moose populations in this area are conservatively managed so they are healthy across the region this outfitter hunts. Mature Shiras bulls range in size from 44" to 50".
The outfitter will pick you up at your hotel and transport you to camp where they will go over your gear to insure you have everything needed. From there you will set out on horseback to camp. Depending on the area you are hunting in, there is a 1 to 3 hour horseback ride to get you to camp.
Hunting dates are during October 19 to 26.
